To create a new document, select File -> New from the bar along the top of the screen before editing the settings in the window that comes up to customize the new file.

To begin, let’s choose the Type Tool. This can be done by clicking on the icon depicted below located in the toolbar down the left side of the screen, or by hitting the T button on your keyboard.

Now that the tool has been selected, you can click anywhere within the document to start typing.

Step 3: Select rectangle tool.

To create a rectangle with the shape tool in photoshop. Set the color of the rectangle to your desired background color, and then drag and resize that rectangle underneath your text layer.
